4 Ways To Say How Are You In Spanish

1. ¿Cómo estás? ​-​ h​ow are you/how do you do?

It’s a very universal and very common phrase that you can use in any situation. Ex:

- ¿Cómo estás Pedro?

- ¿Cómo está María?

- ¿Cómo están amigos?

2. ¿Cómo están?​

It is used when greeting two or more people. You can combine Hola and ¿Cómo estás? Ex:

- Hola Pedro, ¿Cómo estás?

- Hola María, ¿Cómo está Pedro?

- Hola amigos, ¿Cómo están?

3. ¿​Cómo estás tú? ​- how are you?

In this case, the phrase uses the familiar so you’d use it with people you know/friends, rather than strangers.

4. ​¿Cómo te va?​ - how is it going?

It’s a very colloquial phrase so you would only use it with good friends. The question may be accompanied by the name of the person who is greeted. Ex:

- Hola, ¿Cómo te va Pedro?

Each of the above questions has an answer from the person who is asked. Next, we will see the phrases used to answer.

6 Ways to say I'm good in Spanish

There are many ways to respond when someone asks you how are you in Spanish, however, the most common and universal answers are as follow:

5. Estoy bien, gracias-​​​ I’m fine, thanks.

It ́s the answer to the questions ¿Cómo estás?​ And ​¿Cómo estás tú? Ex:

- José: ​¿Cómo estás Pedro?

- Pedro​: Estoy bien, gracias.

- José:​ ​¿Cómo estás tú?

- Pedro: ​Estoy bien, gracias Pedro.

6​. M​e va bien, gracias​ - I’m doing well, thank you.

It’s the answer to the question ¿Cómo te va? Ex:

- José: ​Hola Pedro, ¿Cómo te va?

- Pedro: ​Me va bien, gracias.

7. ​Estoy Bien​ - I’m fine.

It’s the reply equivalent of the question we covered above but shorter. Ex:

- José: ​¿Cómo estás Pedro?

- Pedro: ​Estoy bien.

8. ​Más o menos​ - so so.

It expresses that the person doesn't feel very well. You can use it as an answer to the questions ​¿Cómo estás?​, ¿​ Cómo estás tú? And ¿Cómo te va?​.

9. ​No me siento bien ​- I’m not feeling well.

It’s used similar to más o menos.

10. ​Bien, ¿y tú cómo estás?​ - Fine, and how are you?

After replying to someone who asks you how you are, you can ask about them. Note that this phrase uses the familiar pronoun so you’d use it with friends or people you’re familiar with. Ex:

- José: ​¿Cómo estás Pedro? - Pedro: ​Bien, ¿y tú cómo estás?

You can also use ​Bien, ¿y tú? As a shorter version.
